And it still has the advantage of getting you money without the GM having to do a drekton of work. Not having to pay for your lifestyle frees up a ton of nuyen on the quick. There's ways to get a little extra money without having to do runs by yourself.Īnother example from 4 th Edition would be the Trust Fund quality. GMs expend enough of that as it is, I think we as players shouldn't be attempting to make it worse on them.īut this is one of those mitigating factors I was discussing. The point being that it adds to the game without being a huge drain on time, energy, and resources. So that means penalties on rolls due to exhaustion. Work a forty hour work week for that sweet sweet nuyen? Great! You've also been running a lot lately and you don't have a sleep regulator. It's a wonderful quality to have because it allows you to make a little extra money and doesn't mean your GM has to run extra special sessions just for you. But now I need to do a job to keep my good standing with the Yak's(debt). This whole time I've also networked with just about everyone in the Family as well, and have probably earned a few new contacts and favors along the way. ![]() Once I'm in the meeting with the Don, now odds are I've got to pull one last job to get the favor I need from the Don. I might have to pull a few free jobs for one or more of their lieutenant to buy my way into a face to face with the don(street cred), and then maybe before I meet the don I'd do a job or take care of something for this right hand man so he puts in a good word about how much of a stand up guy I am to the Don(buying influence). Or maybe I'm trying to get something out or from the Don of the city I'm working in. If I say want to get in good with a J, I might do small run for free if it may lead to getting bigger runs later on. Street Cred, networking, buying influence, favors and debts are all very good reason to do a run. Money is always the only reason to do a run. but the Sixth World is the kinda place where your buddies sell you up the river if the pay is good enough. But they're the rarity in the shadows, not the rule. I'm not saying that there aren't family unit style groups. And that transfers into the role play really easily. It's because it is a game, and we like to play with our friends. People fall into the "we're a d&d party and we should help each other out" type of attitude. It's one of the few drawbacks to gaming with a regular table that I have seen with Shadowrun. So you're with a crew of people that you may know but most likely don't. In the setting it mentions that a lot of teams that pull off jobs are actually put together by a fixer or the Johnson themselves. 'Runners are urban terrorists that are brought together to achieve a goal. Johnson? Seems like doing illegal stuff with low rating businesses is a low risk/medium reward potential and as such I would stand to gain a lot by conducting my own short data-steals and whatnot to make a quick nuyen on the side to be able to purchase bigger and better equipment so I don't hold the rest of the party back with ineptitude. Shadowrunner, should I not be constantly be doing small side jobs and earning lots of nuyen outside of jobs from Mr. Deckers, when semi-optimized have the potential for lots of power over small businesses, and could steal sensitive information. Before there is a discussion on how to change run payouts, I'd like to delve into a different method of gaining nuyen. I've found that RAW, deckers and riggers simply do not make enough nuyen to be able to support the character build and advance. Hopefully you weren't as silly as me and created a character that was not a hybrid decker/rigger which requires all of the nuyen to purchase new equipment/drones/cyberware/etc. So we all know that deckers and riggers require the most amount of nuyen to be able to upgrade what they do best in Shadowrun. Mostly the pen and paper role playing game, but also the deck building card game, video games, and literature of Shadowrun. Discussion is primarily aimed at exploring narratives found in the Sixth World. Here at /r/Shadowrun we talk shop about all things in the shadows.
